New Releases 1972.04.10

Phonolog Reports – New Releases

Week of April 10, 1972

Caught my eye:

THE MOTHERS – Just Another Band From L.A. (Reprise 2075)

GROUNDHOGS – Who Will Save The World? (U.A. UAS-5570)

DEEP PURPLE – Machine Head (Warner 2607)

Three great albums this week! A fantastic Frank Zappa ‘Flo & Eddie’ LP – I played this album to death – and as I approach age 50 – I can practically recite it from memory! And a rockin’ Groundhogs album with a great Neal Adams cartoon cover. Big time hard rock from Deep Purple – this is the “Smoke On The Water” album!!! FM radio time!!!

Also of interest:

MARY TRAVERS – Morning Glory (Warner 2609)

DAVID PEEL / LOWER EAST SIDE – The Pope Smokes Dope (Apple SW-3391)

KINKS – Kink Kronikles (Reprise 2XS-6454)

FLEETWOOD MAC – Bare Trees (Reprise 2080)

Mary of Peter Paul & Mary – her 2nd solo album. David Peel leaves Elektra for Apple. And a compilation for The Kinks, after they leave Reprise for RCA. Two different covers on the non-Peter Green F. Mac LP – one green, one yellow. Not listed: Warners picks up a bunch of Philips label Mystic Moods Orchestra LP’s.

Notable singles:

GILBERT O’SULLIVAN – Alone Again (Naturally) b/w Save It (Mam 3619)

HUMBLE PIE – Hot & Nasty b/w Sweet Peace & Time (A&M 1349)

SUTHERLAND BROTHERS – Long Long Day b/w The Pie (Island / Capitol 1203)

GARY WRIGHT – I Know b/w Two Faced Man (A&M 1344)

Gilby finally gets his U.S. hit! Humble Pie plug away. Island / Capitol at least try with the Sutherland Bros. – but who is listening? Ex-Spooky Tooth keyboard man gets a solo single. The hits are a few years into the future for Mr. Wright.
