Re: SF haul
Be-Bop Deluxe: Had I known you lacked "Drastic Plastic" I would have gladly sent you my US LP. No home should be without it. Need any other Be-Bop on LP? Or are you strictly gunning for UK pressings?
John Lurie/Marvin Pontiac: A great album! Too this day Sue and I will say "Hello farmer!" for almost no good reason! Sue heard this on the "hip"
Orlando college radio upon release and bade we buy it.
Jah Wobble: I remember hearing this on the same "hip" Orlando college radio station back in 1980-81 and when I saw the CD in '95 I bit. This was a rare instance of my memory of a song being totally off. The "Betrayal" in my mind for 15-16 years was not at all bit like what I heard upon buying the disc. I like JW and enjoyed the album any way. Good naive dub. I went through a Jah Wobble phase recently with a listen to his "William Blake" album as well. I shoud have more.
Tenpole Tudor: Sue brought home The Great Rock & Roll Swindle and Eddie Tudorpole is one of the few moments of that hateful thing I'll fondly remember! I've always wanted Tenpole Tudor's stuff but I never saw it.
Trying for all UK copies - but I do not have "Live In The Air Age" at all.
Never bought Marvin Pontiac because a: not stocked anywhere in L.A. and b: wasn't sure it was John Lurie or not. All bow down to "Fishing With John", the best 3 hours you can spend in front of your TV.
Wobble - this CD is seriously out of print, I was surprised to find it! I wish there would be a CD of "Snake Charmer" and "How Much Are They?".
You can obtain the entire recorded output of Tenpole Tudor for about $10 - $12. Love the 'hits': "Wunderbar", "Three Bells In A Row", "Swords of a Thousand Men", "Throwing My Baby Out With The Bathwater" (sounds like a Rezillos title, eh?)
Re: Tenpole Tudor
I only have a few trax [inc. Bathwater] on UK comps. I have bought UK Ronco comps from this period [81-82] since they had gems like that!
Re: "Marvin Pontiac"
It was not until Sue bought it that I discerned that it was in fact John Lurie! And it was not stocked anywhere in L.A. yet we easily bought it in podunk Orlando??!
Re: Be-Bop Deluxe
I'd be happy to send you "Live In The Air Age" US [white] vinyl w/EP.
Doing a little "catch-up" reading ...
oh my stars and garters, what a treasure trove of vinyl you have there Mr Kane!
Be-Bop were kinda hit-n-miss with me, but I mostly enjoyed them (and Bill Nelson later on). Still in my early Bee Gees re-appreciation phase -- how could it have all gone so terribly wrong later??
All of your "F" selections are good ones, and I really must try to find a "before Phil Collins sang lead" Genesis box set somewhere! They often did this in the UK back in the 90s -- package the three "best" (or in many cases, ONLY) albums of an artist/group together (w/bonus tracks!) and slap a cheap sticker on it.
I'm not especially familiar with the Steeleye Span album you got -- any good? I generally like them ...
And I did the majority of it with a credit slip! That's right, I traded stuff in to get new stuff!
I was never much of a Be-Bop D fan, apart from the "Kiss Of Light" 45. Now that everything's real inexpensive, I'll get it all.
Chas-san, did you get the 2CD versions of the first 3 Bee gees albums? Really massive, and great sounding 60's masters.
For Genesis, stick with the re-masters, when possible. The orig issues that got stuck in boxes for cheap were invariably "old" masters and sound...muddy...no live albums or double albums, either!
I now have 3 or 4 UK Steeleye Span LP's - all have been very good thus far. I am always amazed to find very good condition UK original LP's from the 70's - but it seems to happen with a greater frequency when you look at the folk music, per se.
