Xmas Music

12-8-08 Xmas Music

The radio in my office is cranking out the same old Christmas music – non-stop. My GF & I have been buying some new Christmas CD’s to play…about a week before Christmas! Here’s our first potential Xmas Playlist:

YELLO – Jingle Bells

THE DIXIE CUPS – Let It Snow

ISAAC HAYES – The Mistletoe and Me

THE FOUR SEASONS – Santa Claus Is Coming To Town

BOYRACER – Boxing Day

THE BIRD & THE BEE – Carol Of The Bells

FOGHAT – All I Want For Christmas Is You

KAY STARR – (Everybody’s Waiting For) The Man With The Bag

DEAN MARTIN – A Marshmallow World

THE VENTURES – Sleighride

SKEETER DAVIS – Santa Claus Is Coming To Town

PETE FOUNTAIN – I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus

ELASTICA – Gloria

XTC – Thanks For Christmas

THE MANHATTANS – It’s That Time of the Year

DIANA ROSS & THE SUPREMES – Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer

SHAKATAK – Winter Wonderland

K.T. TUNSTALL – Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)

THE DECEMBERISTS – Please Daddy (Don’t Get Drunk At Christmas)

BOOKER T. & THE MG’S – Merry Christmas Baby

JOHN LENNON & YOKO ONO – Happy Christmas (War Is Over)

SLADE – Merry Christmas Everybody

WILLIE NELSON – Pretty Paper

JOSE FELICIANO – Feliz Navidad

MILES DAVIS – Blue Xmas (To Whom It May Concern)

So, some of these are familiar and some are new-to-us. I never had the Yello track on CD before (just a 12”). And I love the anti-social Miles Davis cut – the vocalist sounds so angry! And everybody loves Slade!

We actually played this volume yesterday. Can’t say I really liked either the Isaac Hayes or Manhattans cuts – too slow! But I loved the Four Seasons cut!

But what I can recommend to you is “Badd Santa – A Stones Throw Christmas” – with material selected by Peanut Butter Wolf. We played that one all the way through without a bump in the road. Lots of old school Grandmaster Flash-style 80’s rap, some oddball electronica (Bruce Haack, The Free Design etc.) – most importantly: lots of stuff neither of us had ever heard before!

Happy Xmas!
