RK 50: The Faces

8-19-08 RK 50: The Faces

Not the Small Faces – but Rod Stewart & The Faces. I am certain I first heard something from “First Step” on a Warner / Reprise sampler LP – and it didn’t take long before you were hearing them on the FM radio.

I found out about the non-LP B-sides sometime towards the end of the 70’s – I think I picked up most of the singles in England. How did Tetsu join The Faces? How expensive was the gimmicks cover for the original “Ooh La La” LP? Do you love the giant poster in “Nod IS As Good As A Wink…”? So much information on that poster. I recently read the Ron Wood book and enjoyed it immensely, though these days, he’s better-known as a member of the Rolling Stones.

And what of dear old Rod Stewart? Several of his early solo albums certainly over-shadowed the Faces LP’s of the day. And, as history proves, a successful solo career was his to be had.

So, ‘fake Stones’? Rock & roll originals? We do not question that The Faces certainly ‘rocked’. Always rather fond of “Ooh La La” – despite it’s fairly short (under 30:00) length. I must spring for the boxed set, one of these days – if only to get the few non-LP singles in slightly better quality than original 45’s.
