It’s no secret that my favorite “Acid Jazz” group was Corduroy – a group that was formed “to make money”. Was I the only person who lamented their passing after the brilliant ’99 album “Click!”? I understand they re-formed and played shows in London this past January. Founding member Ben (Addison) Human also has solo records (“The Addison Tapes”, “Magic Man”, “The Out Of Towner” and “Stonefox” come to mind). I think they were bigger in Japan than anywhere else, and as far as I know, they never played live in L.A. I found out about Corduroy by seeing their masterful “Motorhead” (’93) music video on “Rage”, the world’s #1 music video show (which is from Australia).

Since I have a brushed metal fetish, that cover is like aesthetic pornography to me.

And the music is even good! Are you familiar with Corduroy, Jim-san?

No. I dipped my toe in acid jazz around '92 and found it wanting, like many modern electronic movements. It was a good thought to pit the repetition of drum machines, sequencers and loops against live playing but in the end it wasn't enough for me.
