I discovered Italian / Neopolitan singer – songwriter – guitarist Pino Daniele on a visit to Paris in approx. 1985. I was having lunch at a pizzeria in the Latin Quarter and they were playing Side One of “Bella ‘Mbriana” – I really liked the track “Tutto Nata Storia”. I had been visiting Europe regularly since 1979, so I was very open to Euro-pop of this nature. His voice may take a little getting used to – but I like it. I presume he is very well-known in Italy. No, I do not have all of his releases. But I did my best to keep up with him from ’82 – ’95 or so. I recently got a 2CD “Best Of” from 2000, so this started me on my Pino Daniele path once again – I recently played (and greatly enjoyed) his ’88 EMI Italy album “Schizzechea With Love”.

I like Italian pop music – artists like Adriano Celentano and Lucio Battisti. For me, it’s not a great leap to Pino Daniele from these Italian singer – songwriter artists. I understand he sings in a heavy Neopolitan dialect. He sometimes sprinkles his songs with English, I might add.

So, some groovy music – it’s neither new wave nor progressive rock. It’s Neopolitan music! Check him out!
